Although my children are quite young I have been active in the
schools and within the education community in ISD 197 for the past 6
years. Not only with my service on the
board, but also as part of both the 2011 and 2014 levy committees. In addition, in my professional career I have
worked as a market research manager for the past 18 years. In this capacity I look at business issues
and design and field research studies to gather stakeholder feedback to assist
companies in solving those business issues.
I feel that my experience in being able to truly dig into the core of a
problem and then to work to engage all stakeholders in the solution has been a
strength over the past four years.
What are my goals for the next four years?
Continue on our path of increasing student achievement. We have made some great gains over the past four years in the area of
student achievement although there is much more work to be done. I am excited about the direction we are
taking and the fact that everyone is working together to support the district’s
strategic framework.
Financial responsibility: With the passage of the 2011 operating levy
and the 2014 tech levy, in addition to increasing enrollment and increased
support from the state, our district is in a stable financial position. This is
a marked change from the state it was in four years ago when I joined the board. However, we are not resting on our laurels with
the addition of this revenue, instead we are taking a close look at how we
spend our dollars and our time to determine if we are truly getting the most “bang
for the buck”. We have implemented our
AROI model (Academic Return on Investment) and will continue to use that lens
when evaluating programs within the district.
I will continue to ensure that all decision making within the district
is:
- Timely
- Data driven
- Transparent
- Aligned with district resident goals
Technology:
I will continue to work to ensure the district implements our EmPowerED
initiative in such a way as to support increased student achievement. We live and work in a technology driven
society and our educational system needs to evolve just as our home and work
lives have evolved. Our one to one
computing model in the middle and high schools needs to enhance student
learning and not just be a replacement for paper and pencil tasks. The district is committed to professional
development for our teachers and staff and I am excited to see how this new
technology transforms our classrooms.
